Preview Roundups
March 23, 2019
Arkansas at Indiana 12:00 PM ET
Indiana hosts Arkansas in the second round of the NIT on Saturday afternoon after both teams faced some serious mental and physical challenges in their tournament openers. Indiana trailed by six at halftime without injured star Romeo Langford (back) before rallying for a win and the Razorbacks received 41 points from their bench to prevail without leading scorer and rebounder Daniel Gafford, who has declared for the NBA draft.
Maryland at Louisiana State 12:10 PM ET
With suspended coach Will Wade dominating the headlines this past week, No. 3 seed LSU managed to place all the distractions behind it and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a win over 14th-seed Yale. The Tigers, who are without their coach because of his role in an alleged cheating scandal, will play sixth-seeded Maryland in the East Region on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla.
Wofford at Kentucky 2:40 PM ET
Second-seeded Kentucky will likely be without its leading scorer and rebounder for a second straight game when it meets No. 7 seed Wofford on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. PJ Washington missed Thursday's 79-44 thrashing of 15th-seeded Abilene Christian because of a sprained foot with Wildcats with coach John Calipari telling reporters Friday that "he can't imagine" the 6-8 sophomore forward playing.
Florida at Michigan 5:15 PM ET
Second-seeded Michigan looks to continue its winning ways in the NCAA Tournament when it faces No. 10 seed Florida in the second round of the West Regional in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday. The Wolverines routed No. 15 seed Montana 74-55 on Thursday to record their 17th NCAA Tournament win since 2013, which is the most of any team during that span, and hope to advance to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in their last six appearances.
Murray St. at Florida State 6:10 PM ET
Murray State pulled off the 12 vs. 5 upset Thursday and its reward is a meeting with Florida State on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Hartford, Conn. The fourth-seeded Seminoles got a first-round scare from Vermont in the West Region but pulled away in the second half for a 76-69 victory.
Baylor at Gonzaga 7:10 PM ET
Any doubt that Gonzaga was still a legitimate NCAA title contender after its ugly 60-47 loss to Saint Mary's in the West Coast Conference Tournament final were quickly put to rest when it bounced Fairleigh Dickinson 87-49 in the first round of the West Regional on Thursday in Salt Lake City. The top-seeded Zags will try to advance to the Sweet 16 for the 10th time in school history on Saturday night when they face ninth seed Baylor, which knocked off Syracuse 78-69 in its tournament opener.
Minnesota at Michigan St 7:45 PM ET
A Big Ten showdown is in store for the second round of the East Region when 10th-seeded Minnesota faces second-seeded Michigan State for the second time this season Saturday night in Des Moines, Iowa. The Golden Gophers advanced with an 86-76 upset over seventh-seeded Louisville in the first round Thursday while the Spartans got past a pesky Bradley squad 76-65 for their sixth straight victory.
Villanova at Purdue 8:40 PM ET
Villanova and Purdue began their runs in the NCAA Tournament with impressive defensive performances. A spot in the Sweet 16 is on the line Saturday when the sixth-seeded Wildcats take on the third-seeded Purdue in a South Region matchup in Hartford, Conn.
Auburn at Kansas 9:40 PM ET
Auburn and Kansas both played in their respective conference tournament championship games last weekend, but only the former seemed overly burdened by their recent chaotic schedule during its first-round victory in the NCAA Tournament. The fifth-seeded Tigers hope to recharge in time to make a push for their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2002-03 on Saturday when they square off in second-round action against the fourth-seeded Jayhawks in Salt Lake City, Utah.
