Preview Roundups
March 09, 2019
Buffalo at Colorado 3:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche will be without their captain for what looks like the rest of the regular season as they begin a four-game homestand Saturday afternoon versus the Buffalo Sabres. Gabe Landeskog is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks with an upper-body injury sustained after colliding with Stars goaltender Ben Bishop midway through the third period of Thursday's 4-0 loss in Dallas.
St. Louis at San Jose 4:00 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks entered this month trailing first-place Calgary by seven points in the Pacific Division, but they have won three in a row to pull within one of the slumping Flames. The Sharks look to keep their eyes on the division leaders and complete a perfect four-game homestand against the visiting St. Louis Blues on Saturday afternoon.
Toronto at Edmonton 7:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers turned around their fortunes after a disastrous four-goal second period sent them tumbling to a 6-2 setback against the Toronto Maple Leafs last week. The Oilers vie for a bit of revenge as well as their season-high fifth straight victory on Saturday when they host the Maple Leafs in the second contest of a four-game homestand.
Ottawa at Boston 7:00 PM ET
After using a pair of great escapes to match the second-longest point streak in franchise history, the Boston Bruins attempt to complete a perfect six-game homestand when they host the league-worst Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. Not only have the Bruins won five in a row, but they have earned points in 18 straight games (14-0-4).
Detroit at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The league-best Tampa Bay Lightning look to bounce back from a rare shutout loss Saturday night as they go after a 14th straight regular-season victory against the visiting Detroit Red Wings. The Lightning have been blanked three times this season, but won a shootout and gained a point in overtime in the first two before managing five shots in the third period of a 3-0 setback against Minnesota on Thursday.
Philadelphia at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders ended last weekend with a listless performance against the Philadelphia Flyers, as the 4-1 setback resulted in their fifth loss in seven outings. After completing a home-and-home sweep of the NHL's worst team, the Islanders hope to exact a bit of revenge on Saturday when they host the Flyers at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
New Jersey at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers are in the midst of a stretch during which they play six of seven on the road but make a pitstop at home to face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. New York began the span Tuesday with a 1-0 loss in Dallas and dropped a 3-2 decision at Detroit in a shootout two nights later.
Pittsburgh at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins aim to continue their mastery of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday when the Metropolitan Division rivals conclude a home-and-home series at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The Penguins posted their third straight win over the Blue Jackets this season and eighth in a row overall versus the club with a 3-0 triumph on Thursday.
Los Angeles at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes are hanging around the Western Conference wild-card race and have goaltender Darcy Kuemper mostly to thank as they host the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Arizona has won seven of its last eight games (all Kuemper starts) after Thursday's 2-0 victory over West-best Calgary featured 30 saves by Kuemper, and is three points behind Minnesota for the final wild-card spot with two games in hand.
Carolina at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators have gone 3-3-0 over their last six games but easily could be winless as all three of their victories came in shootouts. Nashville looks to post its first regulation win since Feb. 21 - and third straight overall - and regain first place in the Central Division when it hosts the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
Chicago at Dallas 8:00 PM ET
Five teams from the Central Division are holding down playoff spots in the Western Conference and the hottest among them are the Dallas Stars, who will attempt to match a season-high win streak when they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. The teams split two meetings this season, with Dallas winning at Chicago 4-3 on Feb. 24.
Vegas at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vegas Golden Knights have recovered from their mid-February slump with five consecutive victories and look to take care of business when they visit the struggling Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has allowed two goals in his four starts during the streak, including a 33-save performance in a 2-1 victory over Western Conference-leading Calgary on Wednesday.
