Preview Roundups
November 10, 2018
Vancouver at Buffalo 1:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks barely avoided finishing at the bottom of the Western Conference in 2017-18, but they are among the league's early-season surprises and sitting atop the Pacific Division. The Canucks have earned points in five straight games and will look to extend their run on Saturday afternoon when they visit the Buffalo Sabres in the third stop of a six-game road trip.
Chicago at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers had enjoyed a run of good fortune (4-0-1) to move over .500 for the first time since winning their season opener while the Chicago Blackhawks have reversed course with an 0-5-1 mark to take the starch out of a fast start. The Flyers bid to continue both their recent ascent as well as their long-standing regular-season home dominance of the Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.
Nashville at Dallas 2:00 PM ET
The Dallas Stars began their four-game homestand with both a victory on the ice as well as a significant loss in the form of defenseman John Klingberg, who will be sidelined at least four weeks after having surgery on his hand. The Stars aim to forge ahead and continue their winning ways at American Airlines Center on Saturday afternoon when they host the Nashville Predators, who are a perfect 7-0-0 on the road this season.
Toronto at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins hope to cool down the red-hot Toronto Maple Leafs when they continue a four-game homestand on Saturday, but they'll have to do it without their top goaltender. Tuukka Rask was granted a leave of absence on Friday to tend to a personal matter and will be away from the team indefinitely.
Vegas at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
After making a stunning run to the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season, the Vegas Golden Knights are battling to stay out of the basement in the Pacific Division. The Golden Knights will look to post back-to-back wins away from home for the first time this season as they continue a four-game road trip at the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.
Ottawa at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay Lightning have won four straight games and could have a major contributor back in the lineup when they host the struggling Ottawa Senators on Saturday. The Lightning rallied late to beat the Senators 4-3 in overtime in the second game of their winning streak and reigning Norris Trophy winner Victor Hedman (upper body) is expected to return after a seven-game absence in the rematch.
NY Islanders at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers have won back-to-back contests for the first time this season and look to extend the streak when they continue a three-game homestand against the New York Islanders on Saturday night. The Panthers knocked off Winnipeg 4-2 in Helsinki, Finland, on Nov. 2 before registering a 4-1 victory over Edmonton on Thursday after the long trip home.
Arizona at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
Change is the operative word in the Steel City as the Pittsburgh Penguins must alter their recent fortunes -- and quickly -- with general manager Jim Rutherford promising to do the same to the roster if they don't. Mired in their longest losing skid in three years, the Penguins hope to avert a sixth straight setback on Saturday when they host the Arizona Coyotes.
Detroit at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes snapped a frustrating five-game losing streak last time out and look to put together back-to-back wins when they open a six-game homestand Saturday against the surging Detroit Red Wings. The Hurricanes managed just seven goals during a five-game winless streak (0-4-1) before building a four-goal lead early in the second period at Chicago on Thursday and holding on for a 4-3 victory.
NY Rangers at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers look to bounce back from a disappointing overtime loss and extend their point streak to six games when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. New York was set to post its fifth straight victory on Friday but let a two-goal lead in Detroit slip away in the third period before ultimately falling in the extra session.
Calgary at Los Angeles 10:00 PM ET
Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving heaped significant praise on forward Matthew Tkachuk, saying in part that the 20-year-old assistant captain is wise beyond his years despite playing in just his third NHL season. Tkachuk will carry a four-game point streak (three goals, three assists) into Staples Center on Saturday as the Flames continue their three-game road trip versus the Los Angeles Kings.
